The HAM Lookup Amateur Radio call sign and license search software and call book CD-ROM is extremely powerful and useful for a myriad of Amateur Radio operating activities. HAM Lookup FEATURES The HAM Lookup Amateur Radio callsign search engine provides the ability to perform queries based on either the ham radio Call Sign or Name/QTH information for the licensed radio amateur. Our unique 'QSO/In-the-group' functionality provides a convenient list of recently found Call Signs. Great Circle bearing value and antenna headingsWhen operating a beam or any directional antenna, knowing the proper direction in which to point your antenna can be crucial. Using Ham Lookup, simply type in the call sign and you'll instantly know the appropriate beam heading for optimal shortest path, great circle communications. For a wonderful explanation of Great Circle bearing, distance and beam headings, read 'Calculating Antenna Headings' by Bob Fontaine, W9RJF on page 44 of the March 2007 issue of the ARRL's QST magazine. Great Circle return bearing valueHam Lookup not only displays the Great Circle beam heading that should be used for your antenna, but also the Great Circle return bearing value, or the value that should be in use by the station you're in QSO with. If you happen to be in QSO with another amateur who is operating with a beam or other directional antenna, they may be pleasantly surprised when you're able to recommend a beam heading from their perspective in effort to achieve optimal communications with you. Great Circle distance valueThe Great Circle distance value displayed by Ham Lookup indicates the effective communications distance between your station and that of the station you're in QSO with. This can be an incredibly useful value for assisting in the determinination of band conditions and related atmospheric effects. Maidenhead Grid Square identifiersThe Maidenhead Grid Square identification system subdivides the earth or globe into individual gridsquares of 1° of latitude by 2° of longitude. Knowing and exchanging these values has become customary during QSO and various operating activities such as: DXing, contesting, digital operation, county hunters etc. Ham Lookup instantly displays the specific grid square value for each US amateur call listed. County nameWhether you're actively involved in county hunting or not, knowing the county name of a station you've worked or heard on the air is often incredibly useful for a variety of purposes, including the determination of band conditions and the general geographic or historic location. Latitude and Longitude CoordinatesHam Lookup displays the specific Latitude and Longitude coordinates for each US amateur call listed. These values are in turn used to determine the Great Circle values. Search by Call Sign:Performing a lookup given an Amateur Radio callsign has never been easier or faster!
